Mexico City to Oaxaca State, Mexico

There was nothing better then the air of change once I stepped off the plane onto Mexican ground, even if it was just the traffic/pollution from the 24million who live in Mexico city. It has such a bad reputation as a dangerous chaotic place, but I found a city is filled with so much history and culture. My visit was made richer by a Mexican amigo Daniel and got my first history lesson my first night there with a sneaky visit into the Mexican senate after a drink or two. Although the north is getting pretty ugly with trouble from powerful drug cartels, Mexico is hoping to make some changes to a truly open democracy in the next few years.

We also saw the worlds widest tree,The Tule;
A Cypress tree 54 metres wide and over 2000 years old
The city of Oaxaca won my vote with its cobble stones and flowing horchata. Horchata is a refreshing rice milk drink with cinnamon and other things like nuts and fruit, deliciouso! We came on the right day as every shop and stall was handing out free horchata in honor of some generous Mexcian saint. Needless to say we took full advantage of this horchata happy hour, god bless Mexico.

I diverged to the east coast with two guys from Brisbane I had met in Oaxaca. We took the longest, windiest bus ride of my life crossing the hills and arriving late to meet the "estrellas", the stars. We woke up in a paradise, Mazunte en la Costa del Pacifico de Mexico. I love waking up in a new place, a new bed, but that morning will ring sweet in my memory as our accommodation transpired to be hanging beds on the top of a shore cliff that overlooked the sun rising on the Pacific Ocean...
